Episode 9: Big Picture for Dairy and Vision for Growth

Tom Gallagher, CEO of Dairy Management Incorporated (DMI) joined Lucas Lentsch, CEO of Midwest Dairy in a recent episode of Dairy on the Air, a podcast for all things dairy, to discuss the stewardship of dairy farmers, the evolution of checkoff and the vision for the future

Gallagher recounted the long-standing commitment of dairy farmers to nutrition and social responsibility. Through programs like Fuel Up to Play 60 and Breakfast After the Bell, more kids are eating breakfast, which includes dairy. With a history of dairy farmers working with youth in school lunch programs that spans 100 years, the result is increased breakfast consumption that includes dairy. He also commented on the importance of partnerships with organizations, such as the NFL, to expand programs and their reach.

“It takes a system of people working each and every day and the 24/7 operations of the food industry to come together to provide safe, wholesome and nutritious food for consumers,” as summarized by Lentsch.

Tune into the conversation to hear about not only the history of the dairy industry but also the importance of global growth, export opportunities and how checkoff is working with others to innovation for the future.
